Bernhard obtained a B.A. in International Relations from the School of International Studies/ University of Dresden in Germany. During his undergraduate studies, he also spent a semester at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. He holds a M.A. in International Studies – with a specialisation in International History and Politics – from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. Bernhard is currently a Ph.D. Candidate at the Graduate Institute. His Ph.D. project deals with the diplomatic reactions of the West German government to international terrorism in the 1970s. Bernhard is also visiting lecturer at the School of International Studies at the University of Dresden, Germany.

His further interests lie in the fields of German foreign politics, the Cold War, and transatlantic relations since World War II. More information on him can be found here.
